The ICAI Student Journal October 2026 is a useful issue for CA Foundation, Intermediate and Final students because it brings academic support, subject revision and professional habits into one place. Its central message is simple: technical knowledge matters, but a future Chartered Accountant also needs sound judgement, curiosity, discipline and integrity.
This article is an independently written guide to the official October 2026 Journal. It highlights the parts students can still use in their preparation, including Audit & Ethics, the January 2027 support initiatives reported in the issue, an AIR 2’s study process, and quick-revision capsules for CA Final, CA Intermediate and CA Foundation.

Why Audit and Ethics Matter Beyond the Examination
The October issue asks students to look beyond mechanically checking figures or memorising provisions. In audit work, a document may exist and a number may appear reasonable, yet the professional must still ask whether the underlying explanation makes commercial sense and whether the evidence truly supports the conclusion.
That is the real value of professional scepticism. It is not an assumption that everyone is wrong. It is the habit of asking thoughtful questions: What could go wrong? Why did this transaction happen now? What supports management’s explanation? Is there evidence that contradicts it? Building this habit while studying makes Audit more practical and gives future articleship work a stronger foundation.
ICAI Academic Support Reported in the October Issue
The Journal reported that the Board of Studies had started its online Audit Insights – Bridging Theory with Practice series from 16 September to 14 December 2026, with sessions covering engagement activities, planning, risk assessment, internal controls, audit evidence, substantive testing, completion, reporting and documentation. The point is not to treat a session as a shortcut; it is to connect Standards on Auditing with the way evidence and judgement are used in practice.
For the January 2027 Intermediate attempt, the issue also recorded that Live Virtual Revisionary Classes would begin on 12 October 2026. Students who need the current programme details can use our CA Intermediate Live Virtual Classes guide alongside the official ICAI channels.
For CA Final students, ICAI stated that revised study material applicable from May 2027 would be available through the CDS portal from October 2026. The Journal specifically notes the updated Paper 4 material under the Income Tax Act, 2025 as amended by the Finance Act, 2026, and says revised Paper 4 and Paper 5 material would apply for May 2027 and November 2027. For the linked learning support, see the CA Final Live Virtual Classes page.
CA Final November 2026: Use Tests to Improve Execution
The October Journal urged CA Final November 2026 candidates to use Mock Test Series I and II as diagnostic tools, not merely score sheets. It also highlighted the Success at CA Exam programme, RTPs, Study Material, Suggested Answers, the Case Scenario Booklet, MCQ practice and recorded sessions as complementary resources.
A useful test review has three parts: identify the concept missed, identify the execution error, and decide the change for the next paper. Candidates looking for the dates and access routes should use the CA Final November 2026 MTP schedule rather than relying on a screenshot or an old message.
AIR 2 Ritij Saraf’s Revision Lessons
In the topper interview, CA Final May 2026 AIR 2 Ritij Saraf describes a preparation system built around repetition and review. He began during articleship, completed classes in phases, and reserved six months for revision. He completed three to four increasingly shorter revisions, used active recall for theory, and maintained daily Audit study for continuity.
- Attempt full-length mocks under examination conditions, then analyse them rather than simply checking marks.
- Record conceptual gaps, careless errors, question selection mistakes and time-management issues after every test.
- Use RTPs and MTPs to understand recent question patterns and tested areas.
- Keep a realistic routine with focused blocks, breaks and sufficient sleep instead of changing strategy every week.
- For answers, prioritise concise structure, clear presentation and a sensible time allocation for every question.
CA Final Audit Capsule: Ethics and Auditor Liabilities
The CA Final capsule recaps selected points from Chapter 19, Professional Ethics and Liabilities of Auditors. It maps the First and Second Schedules, their parts, and the misconduct provisions relevant to members in practice, members in service and members generally. The Journal also flags that the Guidelines on Ethical Issues, 2026 are applicable from the May 2027 examination onward.
Use this capsule for a quick recall map after detailed study. It is not a substitute for the applicable Study Material, RTP or question practice. A better revision method is to make a one-page chart of the schedules, then test yourself with short situations that require you to identify the relevant ethical issue.
CA Intermediate GST Capsule: Charge of GST
For CA Intermediate Paper 3B, the Journal offers a revision capsule on Charge of GST. It covers the framework for CGST, SGST, UTGST and IGST, levy and collection, and the distinction between intra-State and inter-State supplies. The issue says this capsule reflects the GST law as amended by the Finance Act, 2025 and significant notifications and circulars effective up to 30 June 2026, making it relevant to the January 2027 examination.
Do not revise this chapter as isolated definitions. First identify the nature of supply, then identify the tax that applies, the taxable person and the relevant exceptions. Pair the capsule with timed question practice and the CA Intermediate January 2027 MTP schedule when planning your final revision.
CA Foundation Quantitative Aptitude: Direction Tests
The Foundation capsule explains direction tests in Logical Reasoning: cardinal and ordinal directions, turns, distance, relative position, shadow-based questions and basic coordinate thinking. The Journal’s practical advice is excellent – draw a small compass before attempting a question and track each movement rather than trying to hold every turn in memory.
Because Foundation Paper 3 uses an objective format with negative marking, speed should never replace accuracy. Start with a few untimed questions, then practise mixed sets under a time limit and review why every wrong option looked tempting. Add the CA Foundation January 2027 MTP schedule to your revision calendar once the concept is secure.
A Simple Way to Use This Journal
- Read only the section that matches your current level and attempt.
- Turn one useful idea into an action: a mock-paper review sheet, an Audit question list, a GST flowchart or a Direction Test drill.
- Return to ICAI Study Material for the full chapter and solve current RTP/MTP questions.
- Keep a small error log and revisit it before every subsequent revision round.
