ICAI Announces Major Changes in CA Examination System – CA Final to be Held Thrice a Year

Introduction

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has introduced a major reform in its examination system by increasing the frequency of CA Final exams to three times a year. This landmark decision, taken by the 26th Council of ICAI, aligns with global best practices and aims to provide students with greater opportunities to qualify as Chartered Accountants.

Previously, CA Final exams were conducted twice a year, but starting from 2025, they will be held in January, May, and September. This decision follows a similar reform last year, where ICAI increased the frequency of Intermediate and Foundation exams to three times a year.

Key Changes in the CA Examination System

1. CA Final Exam to be Conducted Thrice a Year

  • New Schedule: CA Final exams will now be conducted in January, May, and September instead of the previous biannual cycle (May and November).
  • More Attempts: With this change, aspirants will get an additional attempt each year, allowing them to clear exams faster.

2. Equal Exam Frequency for All CA Levels

  • Foundation, Intermediate, and Final exams will now be held thrice a year, ensuring consistency and fairness across all levels.
  • This move eliminates discrepancies in opportunities available to students across different CA levels.

3. Post Qualification Course in Information Systems Audit (ISA) – New Schedule

  • The ISA Assessment Test, earlier conducted twice a year (June and December), will now be held thrice a year – February, June, and October.
  • This change enhances accessibility for members looking to upskill in Information Systems Audit.

ICAI President’s Statement on the Change

CA. Charanjot Singh Nanda, President, ICAI, commented on this significant reform, stating:
