Direct Entry Scheme in CA
Are you a CA aspirant? If yes, you should be well aware that there are two ways to clear a CA exam or become a CA. These two routes make it flexible for both graduate and undergraduate students to get started with the CA course.
Like in every competitive exam, there is an entrance exam that decides your faith. Here is a brief explanation of the same. It is also important to know that any students who have registered for the Foundation course can also convert and apply for the CA Direct Entry Scheme (if eligible).
What are the 2 different routes to join the CA course?
According to ICAI direct entry scheme, a CA aspirant can register in this course by either getting enrolled in CA Foundation or through the Direct Entry route.
1. CA Direct entry scheme
The CA direct entry scheme was started on August 1, 2012, by the ICAI. According to this scheme, the graduates can enroll directly for the CA intermediate course without appearing for the foundation course first.
2. Foundation
If you are in XII and want to get a head start to become a CA, foundation course is for you. According to this, students appearing for the class XII examination can register for the CA entrance exam before June 30/Dec31.
After the XII examination result, they can appear for the foundation exam held in June and December.
What does Direct Entry Scheme in CA mean?
The direct entry in CA route means that the eligible students do not have to clear the foundation course if they are graduated or if they have already passed the intermediate level exam of CS or Cost Accounting. The candidate needs to register with the Board of Studies to apply for ICAI CA Intermediate Course.
Here are the specific eligibility criteria for Direct Entry Route in CA.
What are the conditions/criteria/minimum requirements students need to fulfill for Direct Entry Scheme in CA?
The CA direct entry eligibility is the criteria a student need to fulfill for direct entry in CA, which states:
? An aspirant should have been a commerce graduate or postgraduate become ca after graduation with a minimum of 55% marks or a graduate or postgraduate from any other stream with at least 60% marks conducted by a recognized University. Such candidates can register for the Intermediate Course in the final year of their graduation.
AND
? An aspirant who has passed the intermediate level exam of Institute of Companies Secretaries of India or Institute of Cost Accountant of India.
Procedure, forms, website, documents requirement to join CA through direct entry
If you have joined the CA course through direct entry (Commerce Graduates/Post-Graduates (55%) or Other Graduates/Post-Graduates (60%)), your next step includes undergoing two types of training:
(i) Attend an Integrated Course on Information Technology and Soft Skills (ICITSS) for 4 weeks before commencement of Practical Training (Articleship).
(ii) 9 months of Practical Training (articleship)
Register for ICITSS through an online portal http://www.icaionlineregistration.org/.
You will need to use the single sign-on for all courses and make an online payment. After the registration:
1. Take the print of the acknowledgment slip.
2. Collect all the documents needed to be mentioned on the acknowledgment slip.
3. Take this slip along with the documents and submit them to the concerned Program Organizing Unit at least 2 days before the start of the 4 weeks training program.
The POUs will verify the documents. After that, the registration is completed, and you can start with the training.
(iii) Register for Practical Training of three years.
(iv) Appear in Intermediate Examination on completion of 9 months of Practical Training on first day of the month in which the examination is to be held.
(v)Appear and pass in both groups of Intermediate Examination.
(vi) Register for CA Final Course.
(vii) Successfully undergo Four Weeks Advanced Integrated Course on Information Technology and Soft skills (AICITSS) consisting of Courses on Advanced Information Technology and Management Communication Skills during the last two years of practical training but before appearing in the Final Examination.
(viii) Appear in the Final Examination on completion of the practical training or while serving last 6 months of articled training on or before the last day of the month preceding the month in which the examination is to be held after successful completion of AICITSS.
(ix) Complete articled training of 3 years.
(x) Pass Final Examination.
(xi) Enrol as a member of the ICAI and be designated as ?CharteredAccountant?.
If you have joined the CA course through direct entry (passed Intermediate level examination of Institute of Company Secretaries of India or Institute of Cost Accountants of India), your next step includes following :
(i) Enrol with the Institute for Intermediate Course.
(ii) Undergo Four Weeks Integrated Course on Information Technology and Soft skills (ICITSS) consisting of Courses on Information Technology and Orientation Course at the earliest but these are to be completed compulsorily before commencement of their articleship.
(iii) Appear in Intermediate Examination on completion of 8 months of study course as on first day of the month in
which the examination is to be held.
(iv) Join articled training after passing either of the Group or Both Groups of Intermediate Course and after
successfully undergoing ICITSS.
(v) Clear the balance Group (if any) of Intermediate Examination.
(vi) Register for Final Course.
(vii) Successfully undergo Four Weeks Advanced Integrated Course on Information Technology and Soft skills (AICITSS) consisting of Courses on Advanced Information Technology and Management Communication Skills during the last two years of practical training but before appearing in the Final Examination.
(viii) Appear in the Final Examination on completion of the practical training or while serving last 6 months of articled training on or before the last day of the month preceding the month in which the examination is to be held after successful completion of AICITSS.
(ix) Complete articled training of 3 years.
(x) Pass Final Examination.
(xi) Enrol as a member of the ICAI and be designated as ?CharteredAccountant?
Provisional Regstration in Direct Entry Scheme in CA
Candidates who are pursuing the Final year of Graduation Course shall be eligible for provisional registration to the Intermediate Course. Such candidates would be required to submit satisfactory proof of having passed the graduation examination with the specified percentage of marks within such period not exceeding six months as from the date of appearance in the final year graduation examination.
During the period of provisional registration, the candidate can undergo and complete ICITSS. It is clarified that in their case, the practical training will commence only on becoming a graduate with specified percentage of marks. Such candidates shall be eligible for appearing in the Intermediate Examination on completion of nine months of practical training. If such candidates fail to produce the proof within the aforesaid period, his provisional registration shall be canceled and the registration fee or the tuition fee, as the case may be, paid by him shall not be refunded and no credit shall be given for the theoretical education undergone.

Students who choose the CA Direct Entry Route must pay an additional Rs 200/- for cost of Prospectus.
